Wike-backed PDP faction vows to rebuild party in Ekiti ahead of 2027

The Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has pledged to rebuild the party and return it to winning ways ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The newly inaugurated State Chairman of the faction, Lanre Omolase, made the pledge on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti during the inauguration of members of the State Working Committee.

Omolase, an ally of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, said the leadership would work to reposition the party and called on members to remain committed to its revival.

“I will lead the party with the fear of God and ensure that the party regains its lost ground in the state. We have all it takes to achieve that,” he said.

Also speaking, a member of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, Bisi Kolawole, said efforts were underway at the national level to rebuild the party’s structure and restore unity among members.

Kolawole, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2022 Ekiti election, acknowledged that the party had faced internal challenges but expressed confidence in ongoing reconciliation efforts.

“Our party has experienced internal challenges in recent times, but the leadership at the national level is working diligently to restore unity, strengthen internal democracy, and rebuild the confidence of members across the country,” he said.

He urged the newly elected executives to remain loyal, respect party elders and work collectively to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

Also addressing delegates, the Chairman of the PDP State Congress Committee, Philip Adebiyi, commended the peaceful conduct of the congress and said reconciliation among members remained a priority.

“The next step is to bring all party members together for reconciliation,” he said.

Other members of the State Working Committee include Babatunde Akande (Deputy Chairman), Tunde Ogunleye (Secretary), Femi Philips (Publicity Secretary), Lawrence Odunayo (Organising Secretary), and Olugbenga Agbede (Legal Adviser).

Also elected were Mrs Ayodele Bosede (Women Leader), Banji Femi (Youth Leader), Gani Bakare (Financial Secretary), Anike Folasade (Treasurer), and Ajayi Joseph (Auditor).

In addition, Sunday Olowolafe, Adeniyi Adefemi and Segun Olatunji emerged as senatorial chairmen for Ekiti South, Central and North, respectively.

The development comes as the PDP national leadership continues efforts to reconcile rival factions within the party, including the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
