Senate Confirms Dakingari as Ambassador, Yusuf as NAHCON Boss
The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointments of Usman Dakingari as a non-career ambassador and Ismail Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the nominations to the Senate earlier this year. Dakingari’s appointment was submitted on February 10, while Yusuf’s was sent on February 17.
During plenary, Senator Sani Bello, representing Niger North and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, presented the committee’s report, noting that both nominees had been screened and found suitable for their respective roles.
“The committee, having thoroughly screened the nominees, found them suitable for the positions for which they were nominated,” Bello said. “On behalf of the committee, I thank Mr. President and the Senate for their cooperation.”
Following the presentation, the Senate swiftly confirmed the nominees. Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated them, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver on their assignments.
“I congratulate the nominees and wish them fruitful endeavours in their new roles,” Akpabio said. “We appreciate the President for identifying competent individuals for these national assignments.”
Usman Dakingari, a former governor of Kebbi State, and Ismail Yusuf, a seasoned administrator, are expected to assume their duties immediately.
