President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said he feels encouraged whenever opposition figures express anger over laws passed by the National Assembly, noting that such reactions signal to him that the Senate has taken the right decision.

Akpabio made the remark on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while addressing guests during a reception organised in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

According to the Senate President, criticism from the opposition often reassures him that the legislation passed by the Senate serves the intended purpose.

“Each time we make a law and the opposition frowns, I get excited that we have made the right law,” he said.

Akpabio also dismissed threats by some opposition figures to boycott the 2027 presidential election, describing such statements as a sign of unpreparedness for the political contest.

“Yesterday I saw one man shouting on television because of the amended Electoral Act, saying they may boycott the election. My response is simple — tell the truth, you are boycotting because you are not ready. If you are ready, you will not boycott,” he added.
