A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has pledged to prioritise the welfare of residents if elected governor in the 2027 election.

Adediran, who is the Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, made the pledge on Saturday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture in Ikeja.

According to him, the primary responsibility of any government is to improve the quality of life of its citizens, promising that his administration would implement policies aimed at raising living standards across the state.

He emphasised that government should focus on creating a conducive environment for economic growth rather than directly engaging in business activities.

Jandor also said addressing the economic challenges facing residents would require strategic investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, education and healthcare.

The APC chieftain further spoke on the resilience of members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, noting that the group has remained united for nearly a decade despite the setbacks experienced after the 2023 general elections.

“We didn’t just start today. After the 2023 elections, many expected that I would tell our supporters to disperse because of what happened, but we see that experience as a test of faith,” he said.

He also noted that no individual from the Badagry Division has ever governed Lagos State, expressing hope that the aspiration of people from the area could eventually become a reality.

Meanwhile, the guest lecturer at the event, Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal, who spoke on the topic “Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: The Islamic Perspective,” called for a more structured system for managing Zakat.

He urged authorities to establish committees comprising technocrats to oversee the transparent distribution of Zakat funds, noting that such a system would ensure resources are effectively channelled toward entrepreneurship, education, healthcare and support for vulnerable members of society.
