The declaration was made by Deputy National Secretary Chief Richard Nnanna Ihediwa in Umuahia during the party’s stakeholders’ meeting, which also marked the inauguration of Local Government Caretaker Committees and the launch of the PDP’s online membership registration exercise.
Ihediwa said the PDP is being “persecuted” because it is the only credible opposition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He alleged that the APC has deployed political moles to instigate leadership crises within the party but added that the emergence of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee at the November 2025 Ibadan convention had resolved internal disputes.
“Nigerians should know that the APC is not an option in 2027. The reason they are fighting the PDP is because they know we are the only party capable of salvaging Nigeria from their grip,” Ihediwa said.
He also criticised the APC-led federal government for economic mismanagement, claiming its policies have worsened living conditions across the country. The PDP official predicted that the ruling party would perform poorly in the South-East during the 2027 elections, noting that the region would not easily forgive the APC for the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Meanwhile, former Senate President and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, formally flagged off the party’s online membership registration in Abia State, while former Commissioner for Housing, James Opara, dismissed the City Boy Movement—a key support group of President Bola Tinubu—as “a movement of jobless people.”
