Police clear Interior Minister Tunji-Ojo of NYSC certificate forgery allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has cleared the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, of allegations that he forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

Force Headquarters said investigations conducted into the claims found no evidence of forgery, alteration, falsification, or unlawful production of the certificate.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development when contacted, noting that the allegations had been thoroughly investigated.

“After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, alteration, falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate,” Hundeyin said.

He added that the NYSC authorities were contacted during the investigation and confirmed that the certificate was duly issued to the minister.

“The NYSC was contacted, and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded,” he stated.

The allegations had earlier sparked protests in parts of the country, with demonstrators calling on authorities to investigate claims that Tunji-Ojo forged both his NYSC certificate and his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result.

However, WAEC in January had already authenticated the minister’s WASSCE results.

According to the examination body, Tunji-Ojo sat for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in June 1999 at Staff Secondary School, Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The attestation issued by WAEC confirmed his results, including A1 grades in Agricultural Science and Yoruba Language, B2 in Mathematics, and B3 in Economics, Biology, and Physics.
