Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has warned that the continued incarceration of the Biafra agitator could influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria’s Southeast region.
Ejimakor, speaking on X, stated that Kanu’s imprisonment remains a central concern for many people in the Southeast. He suggested that political fortunes of regional leaders could rise or fall depending on how the matter is addressed.
“For #Ndigbo, MAZI NNAMDI KANU is the main issue & will remain so until sound justice is done,” Ejimakor wrote. “Whether you admit it or not, his incarceration will significantly affect the general elections, especially in the Southeast where mighty politicians will fall or rise on account of it.”
Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at Sokoto Correctional Centre following his conviction on terrorism-related charges. His continued detention has sparked widespread debate and remains a sensitive issue in the region’s political landscape.
