APC Denies Alleged Involvement in Edo ADC Leaders’ Shooting

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims linking it to the recent shooting of African Democratic Congress (ADC) members in Edo State, describing the allegations as “baseless” and “delusional.”

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC rejected the ADC’s accusation, insisting no official investigation had confirmed the ruling party’s involvement.

“The ADC claimed that the APC was responsible for the shooting incident involving its members in Edo State. That is utterly delusional,” the statement read.

Morka accused the opposition party of rushing to judgment, saying, “By its baseless conclusion, the party has declared itself accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause.”

The ADC had earlier alleged that the attack was part of “cases of acts of terrorism by the ruling APC” against its members. The APC, however, called the characterization “reckless and unjustifiable,” arguing it only revealed the ADC leadership as “confused and desperate to curry public sympathy.”

While distancing itself from the incident, the APC condemned political violence and urged law enforcement agencies to investigate.

“Violence of any kind in our political space is unacceptable and must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians. Our party roundly condemns the reported shooting incident in Edo State,” Morka said.

In a controversial statement, the APC suggested that the investigation should also examine internal conflicts within the ADC, citing leadership struggles and factional clashes within the party.

The ruling party further dismissed suggestions that it had any political motive, pointing to its recent electoral successes. “To be clear, the APC has no role in the unfortunate shooting incident. We are focused on consolidating our recent wins in the FCT municipal elections, and Rivers and Kano state constituency elections,” Morka added.

The APC’s statement comes amid heightened political tensions in Edo State, as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
