The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has suspended a medical doctor attached to one of its secondary health facilities for allegedly reporting to work under the influence of alcohol and engaging in acts deemed unprofessional.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at a government-owned hospital in the state, was brought to the attention of the board’s management, prompting an immediate preliminary review.
Findings from the initial assessment, according to the authorities, pointed to misconduct, leading to the issuance of a formal query and the doctor’s suspension pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, approved the disciplinary measures, stressing that the action was in line with established civil service regulations and professional standards guiding medical practice.
In a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Sulaiman, the management described the alleged behaviour as unacceptable and inconsistent with the ethical obligations of healthcare practitioners.
The statement emphasised that medical personnel are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding lives and must, therefore, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and sound judgment while on duty.
Reaffirming the Kano State Government’s commitment to accountability in the health sector, Dr. Nagoda warned that any conduct capable of eroding public trust in the system would attract appropriate sanctions.
The board assured members of the public that investigations are ongoing and that necessary actions would be taken in accordance with civil service rules and medical ethics.
