The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027.
The Commission also fixed February 6, 2027, for the conduct of governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country.
INEC had earlier slated February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly polls, while March 6, 2027, was announced for governorship and state assembly elections.
However, the electoral umpire reviewed the timetable following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022 and the enactment of the new Electoral Act, 2026.
The adjustment, according to the Commission, became necessary to align the electoral calendar with the provisions of the new law.
Further details are expected as INEC provides additional clarification on the revised schedule.
