ADC Chieftain Condemns Attack on Obi, Urges Swift Action by Security Agencies

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Nwosu, has strongly condemned the attack on the party’s presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, on Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State.

Nwosu, who contested the November governorship election in Anambra State under the ADC, described the assault as a serious threat to the tenets of democracy.

In a statement, he said:

“An attack on Peter Obi is an attack on all Nigerians who value peace, civility, and the democratic right of citizens to freely participate in the political process. This act is disheartening and unacceptable.”

He added that Nigeria must rise above political violence and embrace a culture of tolerance, maturity, and respect for democratic principles. According to Nwosu, healthy competition, constructive engagement, and mutual respect—not aggression or intimidation—are the foundations of a thriving democracy.

Nwosu further called on relevant security agencies to act decisively, investigate the incident, and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. He stressed that accountability is crucial to restoring public confidence and preventing future political violence.

“Political differences must never degenerate into acts that endanger lives or undermine national stability,” he concluded.
