Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused certain political actors of hypocrisy, saying the recent FCT Area Council elections have revealed the tactics of those who distribute corn and groundnuts during campaigns in a bid to mislead Nigerians.
Wike made the assertion on Sunday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while reacting to the results of the polls.
The FCT elections, he noted, have clarified the standing of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the nation’s capital. According to reports, the APC secured victories in five Area Councils, while the PDP managed to win only one.
Speaking on the outcome, Wike said:
“This election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers for campaign purposes, with the sole aim of deceiving Nigerians. The residents of FCT have shown that they cannot be swayed by emergency democrats who refuse to acknowledge any good in our country and its government.”
The Minister emphasized that the conduct of the electorate in the FCT underscores Nigerians’ growing awareness and ability to distinguish between genuine leadership and superficial political gestures.
