Osun PDP Backs Adeleke as INEC Publishes Final List for August Guber Poll

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated residents of the state following the publication of the final list of candidates for the August 8, 2026 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, describing it as a critical milestone in the electoral process.

In a press statement issued on Monday by the state chairman, Sunday Bisi, the party said the inclusion of Governor Ademola Adeleke on the ballot represents a victory for democracy and the will of the people.

The party alleged that attempts by “anti-democratic forces” to push the governor out of the race through what it described as calculated distractions and political manoeuvres had failed.

According to the statement, the publication of the candidates’ list also validates the decision of the Osun PDP to align with the governor’s political movement under the Accord platform, stressing that the step was taken in the overriding interest of the people and to prevent internal disputes at the national level from undermining the state’s electoral prospects.

The party noted that the move was aimed at safeguarding the state’s democratic aspirations and ensuring continuity in governance.

It described Adeleke as a peaceful and mature leader who avoided being drawn into national-level political confrontations, adding that his focus remained on governance and delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Osun PDP pledged to deploy its structures and supporters across all local government areas to secure the governor’s re-election in the August poll, while urging residents to remain vigilant and undistracted as the election approaches.
