Osun PDP Lawmakers Rally Behind Adeleke for Second Term Bid, Affirm Bisi as State Chairman

Federal and state lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have unanimously endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term ahead of the August 8 governorship election.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a caucus meeting held in Osogbo on Saturday and signed by Senator Lere Oyewumi on behalf of the lawmakers.

According to the communiqué, the legislators resolved to back Adeleke despite his planned re-election bid under the platform of the Accord Party, citing his performance in office since assuming leadership in November 2022.

The caucus praised the governor’s record in workers’ welfare, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, noting that his administration has maintained governance stability and sustained development projects across the state.

The statement read in part: “After a comprehensive review of the Governor’s performance in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare delivery, education, and democratic stability, we unanimously endorse and give our total support to His Excellency for a second term in office in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress for the state.”

The lawmakers further commended the governor for sustaining local government salary payments and social services despite financial pressures arising from the lingering local government crisis.

On the internal leadership dispute within the party in the state, the caucus passed a vote of confidence in the state chairman, Sunday Bisi, and the current State Working Committee.

They rejected the legitimacy of the Taminu-Turaki-led caretaker arrangement, declaring that it lacks the backing of the duly elected PDP National and State Assembly caucus in the state.

The communiqué stressed that the existing ward, local government, and state executives remain the authentic party leadership structure and urged members to disregard any parallel claims to authority.
