Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged to promote unity among political leaders in Kano State and cautioned against violent and do-or-die politics, saying sustainable peace must remain the foundation of governance and democratic engagement.

The governor gave the assurance during the second special prayer session and Qur’anic recitation held at the Government House, Kano, where 4,444 reciters gathered to pray for unity, peace and prosperity in the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Tofa, the governor said the collective spiritual exercise was already producing encouraging signs of harmony across political divides.

According to him, recent interactions among key political actors show that tensions are easing and cooperation is improving in the overall interest of the state.

Yusuf cited the participation of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, in government programmes as evidence of growing understanding and collaboration among Kano leaders, irrespective of political differences.

He expressed optimism that the lingering Kano Emirate dispute would be resolved peacefully, noting that ongoing prayers and dialogue would help produce an amicable outcome acceptable to all parties involved.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to reconciling political stakeholders across party lines and urged them to reject bitterness, hostility and winner-takes-all attitudes, stressing that politics should not be treated as warfare.

He also reiterated his administration’s resolve to stamp out thuggery, describing youths involved in violent acts as valuable citizens who should instead be productively engaged in the development of the state.

Yusuf assured residents that his government would continue to implement people-oriented projects with direct impact on their welfare and commended the Qur’anic reciters for their continued prayers for stability and progress.

In his remarks, Jibrin applauded the unity prayer initiative and encouraged other states to adopt similar programmes to strengthen peace and national cohesion.

Also speaking, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, urged residents to remain steadfast in prayers and support efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
