Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has called on United States lawmakers to conduct thorough research and verify facts before proposing sanctions against former Kano State Governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
Speaking in a statement on his verified X handle on Thursday, Sani emphasized that anyone who takes up arms to kill or kidnap innocent citizens deserves to be designated a terrorist. However, he stressed that Kwankwaso has never condoned, supported, or encouraged religious persecution, violence, or discrimination.
“The US lawmakers need to carry out deeper and broader research to get their facts right. Senator Kwankwaso has never been an extremist, and his conduct while in office can be verified,” Sani wrote.
He further noted that leaders of groups like Miyetti Allah and Kautal Hore have themselves at times been targets of bandits and terrorists. Sani added that any bill with political, historical, or global implications must be based on meticulous, intelligent, and comprehensive research.
This statement comes after US lawmakers introduced a bill proposing sanctions against the Fulani militia and Kwankwaso.
