The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms during an intelligence-led operation in Oke Ogun area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued Wednesday in Ibadan, noting that the arrests were made through coordinated efforts involving other security outfits.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out at Komu village following credible intelligence linking one of the suspects to a previously reported abduction case involving a 25-year-old woman, Huseinat Abubakar, of Gelede Camp via Komu.
Police identified the first suspect as Aliu Umaru, 22, who had earlier been declared wanted in connection with the kidnapping incident. Investigations revealed that Umaru allegedly confessed during interrogation and provided useful information that led to the arrest of two other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.
The additional suspects were named as Gure Wadi, 60, and Ibrahim Yobo, 35, both residents of Komu village.
The police further stated that a search conducted at the residence of one of the suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and a dane gun, believed to have been used in carrying out the crime.
The Command said investigations are ongoing and assured that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
