The South-West leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from a purported regional inauguration said to have taken place at Kakanfo, Ibadan, describing the exercise as unauthorized and not recognized by the party’s official structure.
A claim had circulated that the South-West ADC leadership was inaugurated at the event, reportedly chaired by the party’s National Secretary, Engr. Raufu Aregbesola. However, the zonal leadership said the account remains unverified and was not sanctioned by the party.
In a statement issued by the ADC South-West leadership, the group said the individuals allegedly inaugurated are not known to the party at any level, stressing that the exercise was conducted without the knowledge or approval of the party’s National Headquarters.
The statement further disclosed that a separate and duly recognized inauguration was carried out in Ibadan by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Bamidele Abdulganiyu Ajadi, in the presence of state chairmen and other national leaders, with what it described as the full knowledge of the national office.
The zonal leadership questioned the authority behind the Kakanfo event and challenged its promoters to produce any formal memo or directive authorizing such an inauguration.
According to the statement, the disputed gathering appears to be an attempt to create internal infractions and tarnish the image of the party. It urged members of the public and party faithful to disregard claims arising from the event and avoid dealings with those linked to it.
Reaffirming its position, the ADC South-West, under the leadership of Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, emphasized its commitment to party unity, discipline, and due process, noting that established internal mechanisms would be used to address any actions capable of undermining the party’s cohesion.
