Opposition Must Rally Behind E-Transmission Protest, Says Sambo

Director of News at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has called on opposition leaders to take a more active role in the ongoing protest over the Electoral Act amendment, warning against turning it into a one-man affair.
Speaking on the ‘Prime Time’ programme monitored by Patriotic Insights News on Monday, Sambo emphasized that the protest should not be seen as the exclusive domain of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who joined the “Occupy National Assembly” demonstration against the Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of election results.
Sambo said, “What we are witnessing today mirrors the political activism we saw before 2014 and 2015, when opposition figures like Buhari and El-Rufai were out on the streets challenging the PDP administration. I am confident that if President Tinubu were in the opposition today, he would be part of this movement. This is exactly what is expected of responsible opposition leaders.”
He further expressed disappointment at the low turnout of other opposition figures. “I expected more leaders to step forward. Where was Atiku? Are they genuinely committed to this cause, or merely paying lip service to public sentiment? The opposition must wake up and engage actively, because had these same government officials been in opposition back then, they certainly wouldn’t have been idle.”
Sambo’s comments highlight growing calls for broader participation in the campaign to ensure transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
