2027 Polls: Timi Frank Petitions Trump, Alleges Plot To Manipulate Nigeria’s Elections

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has written an open letter to United States President Donald Trump, alleging that Nigeria’s democracy faces serious risks ahead of the 2027 general elections due to what he described as moves to manipulate the electoral process.

In the letter dated February 7, 2026, Frank claimed that ongoing legislative and political developments could undermine credible elections and push the country toward a one-party dominance if not urgently checked by the international community.

He warned that failure to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 polls could trigger widespread unrest and institutional breakdown in Africa’s most populous nation.

According to Frank, certain provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 meant to strengthen transparency in election result transmission are being targeted for removal, allegedly to make room for manipulation.

He accused the leadership of the National Assembly and the ruling party of working toward what he termed the entrenchment of an authoritarian political structure, describing the alleged moves as a threat to multiparty democracy.

Frank further questioned the credibility of the 2023 presidential election, citing voter turnout figures and reports by international observer missions which noted operational and transparency challenges. He referenced observations by the European Union Election Observation Mission and comments from the United States State Department calling for improvements in Nigeria’s electoral process.

The former APC spokesman also urged U.S. authorities to scrutinize their engagements with Nigerian political leaders and consider diplomatic measures against officials allegedly involved in weakening electoral safeguards.

He alleged that key state institutions — including security and judicial bodies — were facing pressure capable of affecting their neutrality, and claimed that government resources were being deployed to influence international perception rather than address domestic governance and security concerns.

Frank called for stronger global attention and intervention to ensure that Nigeria conducts credible, transparent and peaceful elections in 2027, warning that continued neglect of democratic principles could destabilize the country and the wider West African region.
