Accord Party Denies Mobilising Students in Uniform for Voter Registration in Osun

 

The Accord Party in Osun State has dismissed reports alleging that it mobilised students in school uniforms to participate in voters registration, describing the claim as false, misleading and politically motivated.

The party, in a press statement issued on Saturday by its Osun State Chairman, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, said the report was fabricated by agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who are unsettled by what it described as Governor Ademola Adeleke’s growing popularity across the state.

Akande said the party had no involvement whatsoever in mobilising students — in uniforms or otherwise — for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, registration exercise.

According to him, “This is a desperate fabrication by APC agents who are clearly uncomfortable with the growing acceptance of Imole across Osun State. Accord has never been involved in mobilising students in uniforms or otherwise for voters registration.”

The party maintained that while every eligible citizen has the constitutional right to register and vote, it does not support or engage in acts that violate electoral guidelines.

Accord also called on the APC to focus on legitimate political engagement rather than spreading what it termed fake news and misinformation.

The statement further claimed that APC leaders in the state had been cautioned by their national leadership against relying on alleged federal influence to sway the forthcoming election.

“Politics should be done without fake news and without selling false hope of federal might,” the chairman said, adding that messages from Abuja had reportedly ruled out any plan to deploy federal power to manipulate the Osun election.

The party alleged that the development has created tension within the Osun APC leadership, noting that voters in the state would resist any attempt to tamper with their mandate.

Accord urged members of the public to disregard the circulating report and reaffirmed its commitment to lawful, peaceful and credible participation in the electoral process.
