A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has announced the dissolution of the party’s leadership in the Northwest and Southwest regions.
The group also dissolved the PDP leadership in Plateau State, saying the affected zonal and state executives would be replaced with caretaker committees.
The decision followed a marathon meeting of the faction’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Tuesday. The faction also announced a slight adjustment to the dates of its planned national convention.
According to a communique issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, the convention, initially scheduled for March 28–29, has been moved to March 29–30, 2026.
“After careful consideration of certain factors, the convention has been rescheduled to take place from March 29 to 30,” the communique stated.
It added that the timetable for state, zonal, and ward congresses will proceed as approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
“The National Caretaker Working Committee will consult widely before announcing the National Convention Planning Committee. These are the major decisions reached at today’s meeting,” the statement concluded.
The move is the latest in the ongoing internal tussle within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
