FG Rolls Out Digital Platform to Regulate Fish Imports

The Federal Government has approved the full digitisation of Nigeria’s fish import licensing process, a move aimed at promoting transparency, curbing bureaucratic delays, and boosting local fish production.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, disclosed that the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture has been directed to expedite the launch of a digital licensing platform.

According to Dr. Oyetola, the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification, food security, job creation, and institutional reforms.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the Minister described the reform as a strategic effort to reposition Nigeria’s fisheries sector for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.

“The digitisation of fish import licensing represents a critical step in eliminating administrative bottlenecks, enhancing transparency, and aligning our regulatory procedures with international best practices,” Dr. Oyetola said.
