A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has credited the late former President Muhammadu Buhari for securing Abba Kabir Yusuf’s victory in the 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election.
Speaking on Arise News, Galadima, who serves as the Secretary of the NNPP Board of Trustees, said Buhari played a decisive role in ensuring that the party’s win was not undermined by the All Progressives Congress (APC), recalling alleged interference in the 2019 election.
“Unknown to many Nigerians, it was General Buhari who took our victory in 2019 and handed it to Ganduje. But in 2023, Buhari ensured that Abba Kabir Yusuf’s mandate was respected,” Galadima stated.
He criticized former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, alleging that the APC leader had disrespected Buhari despite benefiting from him in 2019. Galadima referenced a song, Abuna Abu, sung by Hausa musician Al Hadi Mohammed, which he said Ganduje used to mock Buhari. “Buhari felt bitter about that insult. So when Abba Yusuf won the election in 2023, he ensured the victory stood,” he added.
Galadima recounted the legal battles following the election, noting attempts to overturn Yusuf’s mandate through the tribunals, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. “The judiciary could not be used as an instrument of injustice this time. Through due process and Buhari’s intervention, Abba Yusuf was affirmed as governor,” he said.
The NNPP chieftain also took a swipe at Yusuf for allegedly shifting loyalty to the APC, warning that relying on political figures over divine justice could undermine future victories.
“This shows how God works. Yet, some now believe even if we win in 2027, the APC would take it. Why then should we abandon faith in God’s justice for human assurances?” Galadima questioned.
