Adeleke celebrates Davido despite Grammy setback, says ‘I’m always proud of you’

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed pride in his nephew and Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following his loss at the 68th Grammy Awards.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Omah Lay titled “With You.” The award, however, went to Tyla for her song “Push 2 Start,” marking her second consecutive win in the category.
Other nominees in the category included Burna Boy with “Love” and Wizkid featuring Ayra Starr on “Gimme Dat.”
Reacting to the outcome, Governor Adeleke took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle to share a photo of the singer alongside a brief message of support, writing: “Proud of you always @davido.”
Davido responded by quoting the post and expressing appreciation to the governor, saying: “Love u Excellency!!! We move ACCORDINGLY SIR.”
The Best African Music Performance category was introduced in 2024 to recognise outstanding African artistes on the global stage. Davido has received nominations in the category every year since its inception — first for “Unavailable” in 2024, then for his feature on Chris Brown’s “Sensational” in 2025, and most recently for “With You” in 2026 — but is yet to secure a win.
In 2024, Tyla won the inaugural award with her hit single “Water,” while Nigerian singer Tems claimed the prize in 2025 with “Love Me JeJe.”
