The member representing Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Olusoji Adetunji, has empowered constituents with solar home systems under a renewable energy support programme aimed at improving access to electricity and boosting grassroots economic activities.
The empowerment initiative, facilitated through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), involved the distribution of solar panels and backup battery generators to selected beneficiaries across the constituency.
According to a statement issued by the lawmaker’s media office, the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to expand sustainable energy access and reduce the impact of erratic power supply on households and small-scale businesses in the area.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Adetunji said the programme reflects his commitment to delivering practical solutions to the energy challenges facing rural and semi-urban communities.
He noted that reliable and affordable electricity remains a key driver of productivity, small business growth and improved living standards, stressing that renewable energy offers a viable alternative for underserved communities.
“Access to stable power supply is essential for economic development. This solar initiative is designed to support homes and small businesses, reduce energy costs, and improve daily productivity,” he said.
Also speaking, the Director at the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Dolapo Boyeji, urged beneficiaries to make effective and productive use of the solar systems provided.
He explained that the project was structured to promote self-reliance, enhance livelihoods and encourage wider adoption of clean energy solutions.
The solar distribution programme is one of several constituency-based interventions targeted at strengthening local capacity and supporting sustainable development.
