Former Senate Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, has lauded the Nigerian military for showing significant progress in the fight against insurgency, attributing the improvement to enhanced collaboration with the United States.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, monitored by Patriotic Insights News, Ndume acknowledged that while notable gains have been made, the armed forces still face challenges requiring urgent attention.
“The handicap of the military is still the same issue I have consistently highlighted, but there has been visible improvement,” Ndume said. “The dry season has begun, improving visibility in the North, and this new collaboration—including intelligence sharing and equipment support from the United States—has allowed our troops to operate effectively in the North East, particularly in the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, and the Lake Chad region.”
He emphasized that the fight against insurgency is not yet complete, stressing the need for continuous support in terms of training, equipment, motivation, and ammunition.
“There is visible progress in the war against insurgents, but it is not over until it is completely over. Our troops still need comprehensive team training, adequate equipment, proper motivation, and sufficient ammunition,” he added.
Ndume also expressed optimism that the military’s current trajectory, if sustained, could bring lasting stability to the region.
