US Immigration Crackdown: Federal Agents Kill US Citizen in Minneapolis Protest

Federal agents enforcing the United States government’s immigration crackdown have shot and killed a man during a protest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, marking the third fatal shooting involving federal officers in the city this month.

The incident occurred on Saturday as protesters marched through Minneapolis in defiance of President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies, despite freezing winter conditions.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), officers of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were conducting what they described as a “targeted operation” aimed at arresting an undocumented immigrant wanted for violent assault when the shooting occurred.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said officers encountered resistance after an individual approached them while armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect, but the armed individual violently resisted,” McLaughlin stated. “Fearing for their lives and the safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.”

Emergency medical personnel were said to have administered first aid at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Authorities later confirmed that the deceased was a 37-year-old United States citizen.

The shooting has intensified public outrage and renewed criticism of federal immigration operations in Minnesota. Only weeks earlier, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed a woman identified as Renee Nicole Good, also a 37-year-old US citizen, while she sat in her vehicle.

Good was reportedly serving as a legal observer during protests against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement measures.

Reacting to the latest killing, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the continued presence of federal agents in the state.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz said. “The President must end this operation.”

The governor further called on President Trump to withdraw what he described as “thousands of violent, untrained officers” from Minneapolis, warning that the situation had become untenable.

The escalating clashes between protesters and federal immigration officers have raised concerns about the use of force and civil liberties amid the administration’s aggressive immigration drive.
