Kano Reps Member Quits NNPP Over Infighting, Court Battles

 

A member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing deepening internal divisions and lingering court cases within the party.

Jobe, who represents Tofa/Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, announced his resignation in a letter dated January 23, 2026, addressed to the NNPP chairman of Mobe Ward in Tofa Local Government Area.

According to the lawmaker, persistent crises at both the state and national levels have made it impossible for the party to maintain peace, unity, and effective coordination.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” Jobe said in the letter.

He explained that the decision was taken due to “the party’s internal division and prolonged court cases, which are hindering peace and unity within the NNPP.”

Jobe’s exit comes on the heels of a mass defection that has shaken the party’s structure in Kano State.

Earlier, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced his resignation from the NNPP, attributing his decision to unresolved leadership disputes and deepening internal crises.

The governor’s defection was followed by 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

The wave of resignations has further raised questions about the stability and future of the NNPP in Kano, once considered one of the party’s strongest political bases.
