Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has said President Bola Tinubu is laying a strong foundation for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity in Nigeria.
Idris made the remarks when he received members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027 during a courtesy visit to his office. The statement was issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim.
“The administration has taken bold and sometimes difficult decisions to put Nigeria on a more sustainable path. Early signs of recovery are becoming evident across key sectors of the economy,” Idris said.
The minister emphasised that stabilising the economy and restoring investor confidence are crucial for long-term development. He urged Nigerians to promote unity and responsible communication, warning that “distorted narratives about the country hurt investors’ confidence and slow development.”
Idris commended GAT 2027 for its civic engagement and commitment to promoting accurate public information. He welcomed the group’s proposal to partner with the ministry and the National Orientation Agency in areas of public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication.
“Advocacy groups are vital in ensuring government policies reach the grassroots. Effective communication is essential for national stability and progress,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the group, GAT 2027 National Coordinator, Prof. Ochugudu Ipuele, said the visit was to brief the minister on the group’s activities and to pledge support for the president’s policies.
“We are committed to countering false narratives, especially during election periods, and engaging young people in real-time responses to misinformation,” Ipuele said.
Idris reiterated the government’s commitment to making Nigeria work for all citizens, regardless of religion or background, and assured that the ministry would continue collaborating with credible groups to disseminate accurate information.
