2027: Tinubu must go for Nigeria to recover – ADC insists

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that Nigeria cannot regain its footing unless President Bola Tinubu is voted out in 2027, accusing the current administration of presiding over a hijacked state.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national spokesperson, made the assertion on Friday while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme. According to him, retaining Tinubu in office would only deepen the country’s woes.

“Of course, we want to get Tinubu out of power because it is only by getting him out that we can take our country back,” Abdullahi said.

“There is no scenario where he remains in power and we are able to reclaim Nigeria. The country has been more or less hijacked.”

The ADC spokesman also lashed out at what he described as the “language of banditry” being employed by officials of the present government.

“When people in authority talk about smashing and grabbing power and running with it, that is the language of banditry,” he added.

Abdullahi further alleged that the administration had engaged in the forgery of laws duly passed by the National Assembly, describing the development as unprecedented.

“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that the National Assembly will pass a law and some people in government will sit down and forge it. What do you call that?” he queried.

He also criticised reports that the Federal Government paid $9 million to lobbyists to launder Nigeria’s image before the United States government, arguing that such funds would have been better invested in tackling insecurity.

“If you put $9 million into internal security, Nigerians would see real results. You wouldn’t need to beg any foreign president to believe that Nigeria is safe,” Abdullahi said.

The opposition party maintained that the 2027 general election offers Nigerians a critical opportunity to rescue the country from what it termed poor governance and state capture.
