Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known for her inspirational hit Omije Ojumi, has passed away.

Her death was announced on Tuesday by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody, who shared a brief statement on Instagram on behalf of the family. According to the statement, Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, who passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital,” the statement read.

“May God grant her eternal rest.”

The late singer’s death came months after she publicly sought prayers over a serious leg ailment. In October 2025, a video circulated online showing Akinnaanu during a church service at G.F. David Ministries, Ibadan, where she was seen seated with her leg stretched out while prayers were offered for her healing.

An intravenous cannula was visible on her hand, highlighting the severity of her condition. During the service, the officiating pastor disclosed that the singer had been battling persistent bleeding from her leg, which he described as a spiritual affliction, while praying against what he termed the “spirit of death.”

Akinnaanu began her music journey at the age of 10 and later resigned from a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national prominence with Omije Ojumi, a song that resonated deeply with Nigerian Christians and gained widespread acceptance in churches and homes across the country.

She went on to release other soul-lifting songs, including O Ti Sure, further cementing her place in the Nigerian gospel music scene.

Following the announcement of her death, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, fans and members of the Christian community, mourning the loss of a gifted worshipper and minister.
