Osun 2026: Accord Blasts APC Candidate Over ‘Penalty Kick’ Remark

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, over his recent statement likening the 2026 Osun governorship election to a “penalty kick without a goalkeeper.”

In a statement issued today, Pastor Victor Akande, the State Chairman of the Accord Party, described Oyebamiji’s comment as “arrogant, tone-deaf, and detached from political reality.”

Akande said, “Mr. Oyebamiji must shake off the delusion fueled by his godfather and stop believing that political power is inherited, gifted, or dropped from the sky. The same godfather whose administration was decisively rejected by the people in 2022 cannot now repurpose a political errand boy as a ‘no-contest’ candidate.

“Osun people did not merely vote out APC; they revolted against mismanagement, cruelty, and policies that harmed ordinary citizens—policies in which Bola Oyebamiji played a central role as Commissioner for Finance. He was not a bystander; he was a beneficiary.”

The Accord chairman further warned that Oyebamiji’s perception of an “easy ride” to power was dangerously arrogant. “Expecting elections to be ceremonial strolls into office is the mindset of a political robot, not a democratic leader. No serious statesman would claim an election is a walkover, especially one with a record of unpaid entitlements, fiscal recklessness, and economic hardship,” he stated.

Akande concluded, “The 2026 governorship election is not a penalty kick; it is a referendum. Bola Oyebamiji is entering this referendum abjectly unpopular, politically exposed, and historically unelectable. Osun people are ready, and the ballot awaits. And unlike his fantasy, there will be a goalkeeper—millions of them.”
