Aisha Yesufu Joins ADC, Party Vows to End Self-Serving Leadership

 

Rights activist Comrade Aisha Yesufu has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a development the party says strengthens its drive to offer Nigerians credible leadership and a viable alternative to the current administration.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chairman of the ADC, Mr. Yusuf Tijani, during Yesufu’s formal reception at the party secretariat in Abuja.

Tijani described Yesufu’s defection as a significant boost for the party, noting that the ADC is committed to leadership that prioritises accountability, grassroots engagement, and democratic values.

“In ADC, we build leadership that takes care of the people at the grassroots. Leadership that is selfish and content with greed is what has held Nigeria back since 1999,” Tijani said.

He criticised excessive greed among public officials and stressed that ADC stands for modesty, service, and responsible governance. “A contented leader does not seek excess. Yet, in Africa, many leaders consume beyond their means. ADC wants to change that,” he added.

Tijani also revealed that prominent figures, including a former Senate President, have recently joined the ADC, and Yesufu’s entry further raises the party’s profile nationwide.

Speaking at the event, Yesufu criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming the party has lost touch with Nigerians. “The APC no longer enjoys the mandate of the people. Their recent public appearances only highlight fear and a struggle to maintain authority,” she said.

Yesufu described the ADC as a platform for confident Nigerians determined to reclaim governance from a faltering political establishment. “What you see in ADC are people unafraid of the future, unlike those in power who are already thinking of leaving,” she added.

Also present, Hon. Afahibada Danjuma, ADC Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, congratulated Yesufu and expressed optimism ahead of the FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

FCT Youth Leader of the ADC, Ismail Suleiman, criticised the current government’s handling of national affairs and expressed confidence that Nigerians will seek alternative leadership in the 2027 general elections.
