Kwara APC to Saraki: Come clean on alleged Tinubu support, stop double game

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has challenged former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to explain allegations that he is secretly backing President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in Abuja while parading himself as an opposition leader at home.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Kwara APC spokesman, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, accused Saraki of what he described as “double politics”, saying the former Senate President owes his supporters clarity on claims of political duplicity.

Babatunde said while Saraki publicly aligns with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara, there are allegations that he is privately courting the ruling APC at the federal level for personal advantage.

According to him, such conduct raises serious questions about Saraki’s political sincerity and loyalty, noting that it amounts to hypocrisy and double-dealing against supporters who continue to stand by him.

He said Saraki should address the allegations directly instead of allowing what he termed coordinated attacks on individuals who raised the issue.

“Since Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar made the revelation during a radio programme, there has been a calculated attempt by some hirelings to smear his personality. That is unwise,” Babatunde said.

“What is expected of the former Senate President is to come out clearly and explain himself because this is a weighty allegation that concerns public trust.”

The APC spokesman said Saraki owes it to public conscience and to his followers, “whose loyalty is now hanging in the balance,” to put the matter in proper perspective.

He added that the allegations were consistent with what he described as Saraki’s long-standing political character.

“It only confirms the vintage Saraki — cunning, deceptive, unprincipled and loyal only to himself,” Babatunde said.

Recalling Saraki’s emergence as Senate President in 2015, Babatunde alleged that he betrayed party leadership at the time and showed disregard for APC leaders, including President Tinubu.

He warned political actors in Abuja to be cautious in dealing with Saraki, insisting that his political history shows a pattern of inconsistency and self-interest.

Babatunde said the APC continues to gain strength under Tinubu’s leadership, citing the performance of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as evidence of the party’s growing appeal in the state.

“Anyone who wants to be part of this winning team should do so openly and honourably, not through hide-and-seek politics,” he said.

He stressed that any attempt to enjoy the benefits of the ruling party while playing opposition elsewhere would be “treacherous, unacceptable and a disservice to the people.”
