NNPP NWC voids Kano chairman’s suspension, faults ward action

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has declared the suspension of its Kano State chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, as null and void, describing the move as unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Dungurawa was on Monday suspended by executive members of the party’s Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, who accused him of fuelling division and internal crisis within the party.

Following the development, the Kano State executive committee of the NNPP announced the appointment of Abdullahi Abiya as acting chairman of the party in the state.

However, the party’s national leadership swiftly rejected the action.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NWC condemned the suspension, insisting that the ward executives lacked the constitutional powers to discipline a state chairman.

According to the statement, the action was “misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” adding that it amounted to gross anti-party activity.

“The purported suspension violates the extant provisions of the NNPP constitution and cannot stand,” the party said.

The NWC also described Dungurawa — a known ally of the party’s national leader and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso — as a committed and hardworking party leader.

Johnson said Dungurawa’s leadership had been instrumental to the growth and stability of the NNPP in Kano State, stressing that the national body remained firmly behind him.

The party warned members against actions capable of undermining internal democracy and party unity, urging aggrieved members to follow due process in addressing disputes.
