Fubara reshuffles cabinet, redeploys Green as Rivers Attorney-General

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has effected a minor cabinet reshuffle with the redeployment of the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Christopher Green, to the Ministry of Justice as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Green will, however, continue to oversee the Ministry of Sports Development in an interim capacity pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.

The position of Attorney-General became vacant following the exit of the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, whose appointment was affected by a recent Supreme Court judgment that resolved the lingering political crisis in the state.

The apex court had nullified the appointments of commissioners screened and confirmed by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led House of Assembly, thereby creating vacancies in key cabinet positions and heightening tensions between the executive arm and the legislature.

The development has also complicated the process of presenting fresh nominees for legislative screening and confirmation.

In response to the situation, Governor Fubara opted for an internal cabinet restructuring to ensure continuity of governance and avoid administrative disruptions in critical ministries.

A statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, said the reshuffle underscored the governor’s commitment to strengthening governance, optimising ministerial performance, and maintaining stability in the state.

According to the statement, the decision was approved at the last State Executive Council meeting of 2025 and takes immediate effect.

Green’s interim supervision of both the Justice and Sports ministries, the government said, reflects its determination to sustain effective service delivery while efforts to resolve the political and legislative impasse continue.
