A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has cautioned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, against any form of technical failure in the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
George issued the warning on Monday while featuring on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, insisting that Nigerians would no longer accept excuses of “glitches” in the electoral process.
The PDP stalwart urged the new INEC chairman to learn from past mistakes, particularly those recorded during the 2023 general elections, which were widely criticised over alleged system failures.
Recalling events from the last polls, George said the commission had been adequately equipped but failed in its responsibility to deliver a transparent process.
“During the last election, the necessary tools were provided. What did we hear at the end of the day? They told Nigerians there was a glitch,” he said.
He stressed that such explanations would no longer be acceptable, noting that public trust in the electoral system must be restored ahead of 2027.
“So, let us go back to basics. Prof. Amupitan, there should be no glitch in this system. Nigerians will not accept it,” George added.
The elder statesman maintained that INEC must demonstrate professionalism, independence and transparency to guarantee credible elections and strengthen democracy in the country.
