Panic in Kwara as Explosions Hit Offa Same Night US Bombs Terrorists in Sokoto

Residents of Offa, Kwara State, were thrown into panic late Thursday night following explosions that rocked parts of the town, damaging properties and raising fresh security concerns.

The incident occurred on the same night the United States launched air strikes against ISIS-linked terrorists in Sokoto State, about 540 kilometres away by air.

Eyewitness accounts said the first explosion affected several buildings around a Muslim praying ground, sending residents fleeing in fear. A second blast was later reported near Solid Worth Hotel, located a few minutes’ walk from the initial site.

Security operatives were said to have discovered an undetonated explosive device at the second location, prompting the immediate cordoning off of the area and heightened security presence. The source and nature of the explosions, however, remain unclear as investigations continue.

Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the incident occurred at about 10 p.m.

She noted that police were still investigating to determine what exactly happened.

“Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the nature of the incident and whether it was truly an explosion,” she said.

In a separate statement, Abiola Babatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the Offa Local Government Area chairman, said the council was aware of the development.

According to him, security agencies have taken control of the affected areas to allow for a thorough investigation and to ensure the safety of residents.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
