Oke mourns Diekola, hails Osogbo political icon

Hon. Oluwole Oke, the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has described the death of Alhaji Fatai Diekola as a huge loss to Osogbo, Osun State and the nation’s political community.

In a statement on Tuesday, signed by the Public and Media Communication Unit, Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency Office, on behalf of the lawmaker, Oke said the late Diekola was a political icon and a leader of rare integrity whose life was marked by selfless service, humility and unwavering commitment to the progress of Osun State.

According to the statement, Diekola’s influence on the political landscape of Osun, particularly in Osogbo, was profound, noting that his wisdom, strategic insight and dedication to the welfare of the people earned him respect across party lines.

“Alhaji Fatai Diekola was a leader worthy of emulation, a beacon of integrity and a pillar of Osun politics. His warmth, humility and friendly disposition endeared him to people from all walks of life,” the statement read.

The lawmaker noted that the late statesman’s passing has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, given his role as a mentor, bridge-builder and stabilising force in Osun politics.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Osogbo and the entire Osun State.

“I pray that Almighty Allah grants the family, the people of Osogbo and Osun State the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and forgives the shortcomings of the departed, granting him Aljannat Firdaus,” the statement added.

Alhaji Diekola, an Osogbo-born veteran politician, died at the age of 69.
