Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, has expressed disappointment over the absence of teammate Benjamin Fredrick from Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Fredrick, who is on loan at Brentford, will miss the Super Eagles’ opening match against Tanzania on Tuesday due to injury.
Speaking to reporters in Morocco ahead of the clash, Bassey described the situation as “very upsetting” and wished his teammate a quick recovery.
“No, I haven’t spoken to him. But it is very upsetting,” the Fulham player said. “I feel it would have been amazing for Fredrick to showcase his talent on this AFCON stage. I just hope he recovers quickly and can rejoin us soon.”
The Super Eagles are set to face Tanzania in their opener, kicking off their campaign with hopes of a strong start in the tournament.
