Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described the party as the most organised political platform in the country, despite its relatively modest numerical strength.
Kwankwaso spoke in Abuja on Friday at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, ahead of its national convention scheduled for Saturday.
He charged party members to uphold discipline, unity and loyalty, stressing that internal stability remains crucial as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, continuity in leadership positions should be encouraged, even as some officials may be promoted or reassigned in the interest of the party.
“As we know, tomorrow is our national convention. It is important that we continue with the spirit of unity and understanding that has sustained the party so far,” Kwankwaso said.
He noted that the NNPP successfully conducted congresses and elections at ward, local government and state levels across the country, attributing the achievement to discipline and commitment among members.
Kwankwaso added that the party had adopted the core principles of the Kwankwasiyya movement, which he said emphasise honesty, dedication and organisational discipline.
“We have been quiet operators. Many people do not even know that we have been conducting congresses nationwide. We may not be the biggest party in terms of numbers, but we are the most organised, most prolific and most performing,” he said.
He argued that electoral success is driven more by unity and commitment than sheer numbers, expressing confidence that the party’s internal cohesion would attract new members in the coming months.
“At the end of the day, others will find it more convenient to come and stay in our party,” he added.
The NNPP has, however, been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with one faction led by Major Agbo and supported by the party’s founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, while another faction is aligned with Kwankwaso and backed by Ajuji Ahmed.
