Accord disowns Alleged Osun Guber Primary, affirms Adeleke as Candidate

Accord disowns alleged Osun guber primary, affirms Adeleke as candidate

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has disowned a purported governorship primary allegedly conducted by a faction of the party, describing it as illegal and a calculated attempt to undermine the electoral process ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Sunday, the State Chairman of the party, Pastor Babalola Akande, said those behind the exercise were not recognised members of Accord and had no authority to act on behalf of the party.

“Those parading themselves as Accord members and claiming to have conducted a governorship primary are not known to the party. They lack the legal and moral authority to act in our name,” Akande said.

He alleged that some of the individuals involved were expelled members acting as proxies for the All Progressives Congress, APC, to sabotage the party and Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.

Akande reaffirmed that Governor Adeleke emerged as the party’s candidate through a valid and lawful primary conducted in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and the party’s constitution.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke is the sole and legally recognised governorship candidate of the Accord in Osun State. Any parallel primary is null and void,” he stated.

The chairman warned that impersonation of party officials or candidates constituted electoral fraud, stressing that the party would seek legal redress against anyone or institution that recognised the alleged illegal primary.

He urged members of the public and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to disregard the purported exercise, assuring that the Accord remained united and committed to lawful political engagement in Osun State.
