JUST IN: Senate Screens Fani-Kayode, Dambazau for Ambassadorial Posts

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday conducted screening sessions for two former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau, nominated for ambassadorial appointments.

Both nominees, who previously served as Minister of Aviation and Minister of Interior, had earlier undergone full Senate confirmation during their ministerial tenures.

Following brief introductions, former ministers, ambassadors, and lawmakers were asked to “take a bow and leave,” in line with Senate tradition, citing their prior clearances and extensive public service records.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the procedure, stating it applies to individuals with established and verifiable public service records. He added that any former National Assembly member qualifies for this privilege, given their legislative history and public profile are already known to lawmakers.

The confirmation of Fani-Kayode and Dambazau now awaits ratification by the full Senate.

The screening session followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s submission of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate on November 29.
