Former Anambra State Governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The development was confirmed late Wednesday in a statement issued by his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe, who dismissed circulating rumours alleging that the ex-governor had been kidnapped.
Chukwulobe clarified:
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
Ngige has been in the spotlight in recent days following an attack on his convoy in Anambra State. Armed men opened fire on one of his vehicles, although the former governor was not in the convoy at the time of the incident.
Further details regarding his arrest are expected to emerge in the coming hours.
