Van Dijk Insists Salah’s Absence Doesn’t Shake Liverpool’s Focus

Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, has downplayed the impact of Mohamed Salah’s absence on the club, insisting that the team remains focused on its objectives.

The Dutch defender spoke after Liverpool secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in Tuesday’s Champions League clash, highlighting the players’ determination to maintain consistency despite off-field distractions.

Salah, widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest talents, was omitted from the squad by manager Arne Slot following a candid interview in which the Egyptian forward expressed frustration over his treatment at the club and a strained relationship with the Anfield boss.

Commenting on the situation, Van Dijk told reporters, “It’s a difficult period, but it’s a collective challenge that we’re all facing. Between Mo and the club, things are ongoing and he is not here today. That’s the reality. However, our focus and determination have not changed.”

He added, “Winning always feels good, especially at a time when we are trying to find consistency and build momentum. The outside noise is normal, particularly when results don’t always go our way.”

Liverpool will return to Premier League action this Saturday against Brighton, with Van Dijk emphasizing the importance of maintaining team cohesion amid uncertainties surrounding Salah’s future at Anfield.
