Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has formally defected to the Accord Party, setting the stage for a dramatic realignment ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The governor made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House Banquet Hall, Osogbo, attended by national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

Adeleke, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last week, revealed through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that he had quietly joined the Accord Party on November 6 after “weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”

According to him, the decision was driven by the need to continue the governance agenda his administration has pursued in the last three years.

“Our people understand why this step became necessary. We are seeking a second term under the Accord Party to consolidate ongoing reforms and service delivery that have earned wide commendation,” he said.

He noted that Accord’s ideology of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on workers’ welfare, social development and grassroots empowerment.

Adeleke is expected to contest the 2026 governorship election on the Accord platform, reshaping political calculations in Osun as major parties brace for new alliances and internal shake-ups.

The development comes amid heightened activity among political blocs in the state, with parties recalibrating ahead of party primaries.
