Northern leaders urged to set up regional security panel — Zamfara PDP

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on northern leaders to establish a regional security committee to tackle the rising wave of banditry across the North.

The party, in a statement issued in Gusau by its Publicity Secretary, Haliru Andi, said the worsening insecurity demands collective regional action anchored on coordination, intelligence-sharing and sustained community engagement.

Andi proposed that Governor Dauda Lawal should head the committee, noting that the governor’s recent presentation on insecurity at the joint meeting of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Northern Emirs in Kaduna demonstrated depth, clarity and strategic direction.

He said Governor Lawal’s ongoing policies and reforms in the fight against banditry in Zamfara put him in a strong position to lead such a regional intervention.

According to the statement, the security committee should bring together governors, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, civil society organisations and other critical stakeholders to develop a common roadmap for restoring peace.

“Governor Lawal’s experience in confronting insecurity in Zamfara makes him a credible figure to galvanise a coordinated northern response,” Andi said, adding that the proposed committee would help chart a sustainable path out of the region’s security crisis.
