Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed concern over what he described as the growing misuse of social media by Nigerian students to amplify negative narratives about the country.

Bago spoke when the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Oladoja, led members of his executive on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Minna.

The governor urged the association to lead a national reorientation drive that encourages students to deploy social media platforms responsibly and in ways that promote nation-building.

“One of the key responsibilities before you is the continuous reorientation of our students to use social media patriotically and to love Nigeria,” Bago said.

He further encouraged Nigerian students to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration by embracing agricultural initiatives, including the establishment of student-run farms that can contribute to food security.

Responding, Oladoja said NANS had already commenced sensitisation across campuses to promote dialogue and effective communication among students as tools for resolving grievances.

He commended President Tinubu’s policy interventions, including the zero-interest student loan scheme, and expressed appreciation to Governor Bago for providing scholarships and expanding opportunities for youths in the state.
