Malami Acknowledges EFCC Summons, Vows to Cooperate Fully

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), assuring the public of his readiness to honour the summons.

Malami, who disclosed this on Friday in a statement posted on his Facebook page, said he remained committed to accountability and transparency in line with the values he championed while in office.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

He explained that making the development public was consistent with his long-standing advocacy for openness in public service.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, noting that he would keep Nigerians informed as the matter progresses.

Malami, who served as Attorney-General from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, played central roles in several high-profile cases ranging from asset recovery efforts to arbitration disputes and other reforms initiated during the last administration.

His tenure, however, was not without controversy, as he faced public scrutiny over asset declaration issues, contract approvals, and the handling of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly denied.

As at press time, the EFCC had yet to release details of the nature of the invitation extended to the former minister.
